The famous “Soho Joe”, a pizzeria and restaurant in heart of London’s fashionable Soho had applied to Westminster Council for permission to have some outside tables and chairs. Many residents live nearby in luxury apartments, and some residents had objected to people eating outside on the basis of possible noise disturbance.

 

Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd were commissioned to investigate and undertake a noise survey and to provide an acoustic report. Our report, with comprehensive technical acoustic calculations, had recommendations which would allow the restaurant to operate with outside seating in the evening without disturbing local residents.

 

Sound tests were made one night with a large group of people eating outside, and soon confirmed that the sound of the diners was acceptable, and not disturbing. Our acoustic report was successful at the planning committee, and the planning permission was formally granted. Soho Joe was soon set up for outside dining, and customers could now sit outside and enjoy one of the very best pizzas in London, while watching all the activity in lively Soho. Business is now booming!
