PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL ADVICE ON ACOUSTICS AND SOLUTIONS TO NOISE PROBLEMS
Railway bridge industrial demolition and construction, long term project.
Network Rail had a large programme of demolition and new replacement construction of many old Victorian bridges in the London boroughs of Islington and Waltham Forest, to enable new larger and quieter trains to pass through. These bridges were all located in residential areas, and the local authority had concerns over noise and vibration, both during the proposed demolition and the construction phases.
Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd were called in by Network Rail, and commissioned by Dean and Dyball and Balfour Beatty, the main contractors, to investigate and commissioned to undertake noise surveys and reports with detailed recommendations to resolve the various noise issues. All the options and suggestions were discussed with the project management team, and a schedule of works was recommended in our report.
We also issued section 106 notices to enable night time and extended hours of working with- out interruption or delays to the strict timetable. The works started with our recommendations in place with regular noise and vibration monitoring and progress reports submitted over the following months. This large scale project finished on time and in budget, and the new trains successfully now glide past under all the new railway bridges.
