This successful store in the Marks and Spencer business had some issues with delivery vehicle noise. To ensure the store was ready for an early start with morning customers, the deliveries had to take place during the night, and the local authority were considering a night time ban on deliveries, with obvious consequences. Shaun Murkett Acoustic Consultants Ltd were called in and commissioned to investigate and offer professional technical advice that would create an effective long term solution.

Night time noise surveys were undertaken, store operations and vehicle manoeuvres monitored, sound levels measured, and a full noise report with detailed recommendations issued. This report was presented directly to the board of directors, due to the potential implications. With further surveys, liaising with senior management from Head Office, recommended options were implemented and trialled, with successful results, and regular progress reports issued to the board.

Soon most of the recommendations were in place, including major capital investment in the form of a new quiet Natural Gas Vehicle for deliveries to sensitive Central London stores, and the Kings Road store could continue to operate through the night with deliveries continuing, quietly and effectively.
