In Central London space for residential development is at a premium, and often developers proposing to build in areas previously thought uninhabitable due to noise regulations, have to find innovative solutions to gain official planning permission.

One such development was very close to a major railway line in Camden. The local authority were concerned about potential noise and vibration disturbing residents, and any proposal had to meet strict criteria for noise for planning permission to be granted.

Shaun Murkett Acoustics were commissioned to investigate and undertake full noise and vibration measurements, and issue a report with suitable design recommendations which would meet the Governments’ PPG 24 and British Standard BS 8233.

The noise surveys were carried out to measure train noise and vibration. Working closely with the architect and design team, various design options for building construction were suggested. Our recommendations were included into the specification document, and put out to tender. We were also commissioned to offer on-going technical advice to the contractors on site to answer technical queries, and also to undertake final compliance monitoring for noise and vibration. All criteria were successfully achieved.

Shaun Murkett Acoustics were helpful, reliable and professional in their noise surveys and reports for us on this project, and covered all the requirements;

we shall certainly use them again.
