The new owner was keen to get later hours on his Licence. The bar is located in a Special Policy Area, and getting later hours would not be easy. He had difficult conditions on his licence to serve substantial meals, originally a restaurant, and similar restrictive Planning conditions.

 

Shaun Murkett Acoustics as experienced Consultants, are well known to the Council. We undertook comprehensive Environmental noise surveys to support the Licence Application and the Planning Application for later hours, to remove the conditions, and change the planning use to A4. We submitted all the applications to the Local Authority.

 

There were objections from residents about noise, and Local Authority about cumulative impact. However, Shaun Murkett appeared in front of the Licensing Committee, and based on the conclusions from our noise reports, gradually persuaded all present, there would be no disturbance or cumulative impact. The committee was finally won over, the restricting conditions were removed, Licence granted to 3am in a Special Policy Area. Unheard of in Dalston; a very successful result!

 

Shaun Murkett Acoustics submitted a Planning Application, removing the conditions, new hours to 3am, and change of use with A4 permission. This was also successful; full Planning Permission granted. The owner now has full legal Planning use, a new Premises Licence to 3am. This has significantly increased the value of his business, and substantially enlarged his turnover with the later hours. Highwater is now certainly one of the coolest cocktail bars in Dalston, with very late hours!
